What is the Acorn2Oak program?

The Acorn2Oak program is an initiative administered by Leadership Oakland, supported and founded by Oakland County, to provide grants to young individuals ages 8-18. It’s designed to support their business ideas, community initiatives, educational pursuits, and extracurricular activities.

Who can apply for the Acorn2Oak grants?
Residents of Oakland County between the ages of 8 and 18 are eligible to apply for the grants.
How much funding can I apply for?

You can apply for grants up to $1,000.

What can the grants be used for?

Grants can be used for business and entrepreneurial development, community impact, educational achievement, and extracurricular investment. They cannot be used for tuition, ongoing expenses, sporting equipment, or team registration fees.

How do I apply for a grant?
You can apply online through our website. For those with limited internet access, a PDF application form is available for download and can be mailed to us.
When are the application deadlines?

The deadlines vary for each grant cycle. Typically, there’s a deadline each quarter. If your program doesn’t fall within the grant timing, applications can still be submitted and will be reviewed in the next grant cycle. Please check our website for the most current dates.

How are applications evaluated?

Applications are reviewed by a steering committee based on criteria such as creativity, feasibility, impact potential, and alignment with the program’s goals.

Will all applicants receive grants?

Acorn2Oak is a competitive grant process. Not all applicants are guaranteed to receive a grant. Applications will be evaluated by a steering committee based on criteria such as creativity, feasibility, impact potential, and alignment with the program’s goals.

When will I know if I’ve received a grant?

Applicants will be notified 3-4 weeks after the cycle deadline.

Is there any follow-up required after receiving a grant?
Yes, grant recipients are required to submit a brief report upon completion of their project, detailing the outcomes and learnings.
